GMD/VP, Media & Communications Planning (NY)

The GMD/VP, Media & Communications Planning is responsible for day-to-day oversight of the integrated media capability as well as the growth and development of all media personnel in their assigned office.  Reporting to the SVP, Media & Communications Planning they oversee implementation of our media philosophies, instill process, drive delivery excellence, lead innovation initiatives for our clients and contribute to the evolution of AMP’s national media product.  They maintain direct oversight of the Directors, Media and Associate Directors, Media and lead integration with other capabilities such as Account Management, Strategic Planning and Creative.


  • Develop and lead integrated media and investment strategies across all channels, based on consumer & category insights, competitive white space and key cultural moments 
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day integrated media teams and the application of our media philosophies across all clients
  • Partner with key service lines such as strategic planning, account services and creative to develop holistic communication plans that drive business outcomes for clients
  • Install and monitor media processes that lead to flawless execution
  • Drive an innovative and collaborative culture within the media team that promotes accountability to the team, our clients and the overall agency
  • Guide career progression for direct reports and develop a structure for the media team that enables career progression
  • Manage workload allocations and organizational chart for all media staff in conjunction with SVP, Media
  • Ensures timely performance reviews and career feedback is provided to all media personnel
  • Serve as a thought leader for the capability and a strategic resource for all media personnel
  • Partner with the office GM, Head of Account and Creative Leadership as part of the executive leadership team for the office
  • Serve as a key agency contact for all media clients and a key capability contact for external teams and stakeholders
  • Develop, train and inspire our Directors, Media.
  • Work with our media teams in Boston and potentially other locales to drive process and product consistency
  • Contribution to, and leadership of some media oriented new business pitches.
  • Up-sell agency capabilities to drive incremental revenue.
  • Lead learning agenda development and training initiatives within media capability.
  • Demonstrate a tireless focus on your clients business and their day-today performance
  • Proactively research industry, category  and client trends and  bring innovative ideas to their planning team


  • BA in Marketing or related field
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience with all facets of digital media including display, paid social  programmatic, digital partnerships, influencer and paid search, preferably in an Agency environment;
  • Knowledge of traditional media planning fundamentals. 
  • Experience managing media for brands with national TV investment a plus
  • Experience leading communications planning in conjunction with account, creative and strategy personnel
  • Previous success  in the planning, development and management of integrated media campaigns for large brands
  • Deep knowledge of paid social and advertising technology ecosystems including DMPs
  • Ability to analyze data and a deep understanding of measurement practices, 3rd party measurement companies and web analytics
  • Ability to lead and manage a team of 10-12 people
  • Demonstrated ability to meet tight deadlines while juggling multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven client service orientation with strong written and verbal communication skills, including effective presentation skills
  • Ability to consistently perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to lead a multi-faceted team of channel specialists and provide growth opportunities and mentorship to all members of the team
  • Collaboration with agency’s senior management
  • Passion for  keeping up with emerging technologies and the media landscape
  • Some travel required, anticipated to be between 10-20%
