Director of PR/Media Relations (Seattle)

Responsible for leading public relations and consumer engagement efforts for high-profile integrated accounts.  This position will work on multiple accounts and is responsible for providing strategic public relations counsel that delivers impactful results. The ideal candidate must possess a broad understanding and working knowledge of public relations, social media, partnership development, engagement marketing & events, and advertising.  

 

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and management of integrated public relations, social media and consumer engagement programs for a wide variety of high-profile local, regional and national clients.
  • Provide strategic counsel to both internal teams and clients on public relations, social media, and consumer engagement strategies, activities and tactics.
  • Lead proactive media relations efforts for all accounts across all media platforms.
  • Arrange, coordinate and manage media requests and interviews, with the support of team Managers and Associate Managers.
  • Rely on existing relationships, as well as develop and cultivate new relationships on behalf of clients and the agency.
  • Supervise management of media monitoring, tracking and reporting for all programs.
  • Lead and work closely with the project teams to develop innovative ideas and campaigns.
  • Serve as the day-to-day client contact, project and budget manager, managing upwards of $1 million in fee-based work.
  • Successfully lead a team of up to 8 people on projects and supervise 2-3 direct reports.
  • Create and manage project plans, including project objectives, details budgets, timelines and logistics from start to finish.
  • Grow existing portfolio of client business, as well as proactively identify new business opportunities, assisting with efforts to secure new business.

 

Essential Skills include:

Client Service:

  • Experience in facilitating client meetings, and cultivating strong agency/client relationships.

 

Media Relations:

  • Established editor, reporter and blogger relationships; working knowledge of media channels; crisis communications experience; and proven recent experience placing stories with long- and short-lead media at the national, regional and local levels.
  • Ability to quickly and creatively develop a wide range of materials including news releases, op-eds, key messages, talking points and media pitches consistent with AP style and brand voice.
  • Experience working with media database, newswires and media monitoring vendors preferred.

 

Social Media:

  • Strong working knowledge of social media channels and trends.
  • Proven experience in developing successful social media strategy across multiple channels.
  • Proven experience working with and integrating social media strategies and tactics into all aspects of public relations and consumer engagement efforts, including contests and promotions.

 

Planning & Project Management: 

  • Proven success in planning and implementing high-profile media and promotional events, including development of plans with clearly stated goals, measurable objectives, strategies, tactics, timelines, budgets, event run-of-show/scripting, and on-site project management.
  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills, including the ability to multi-task, prioritize, delegate and apply resources effectively in a fast paced, dynamic environment. 
  • Experience in working with Creative teams including development of creative briefs and project management.

 

Communication:  

  • Excellent written communication skills, including client correspondence, program recaps/case studies, presentations and new business pitches.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to present ideas effectively and communicate with clients, media, vendors and others on the phone, via email and in person (one-on-one, small working groups and presentations). 
  • Ability to explain and persuade the client regarding the rationale of particular campaign strategies and tactics.

  • Strong Seattle community knowledge and established contacts.
